Lose A Ton Challenge...

Hi Everyone!

Let's get as many people involved in this as possible, sound good? The more support we have, and the more people we can reach out and help, the better. If you have family members, friends, co-workers, etc. that want to lose weight in 2012, invite them into the Group! It's OK if they are married or not LDS, we have a lot of married people on our website that are here just for the BodyMindSpirit health information. Once we get enough interest we will break off other sites that focus more on the married and non-LDS crowd.

We appreciate your desire to lose weight in 2012! We are here to help you and give you correct information, to teach you true principles then let you govern yourself. We will not get too much into specifics, and tell you exactly what portion size, foods, etc. you should eat, it will be based more on general principles that will work for everyone, and make losing weight easy.

Some of you might be saying, how can losing weight be easy? The reality is it is easy if you follow correct principles. Starvation, deprivation, cutting out all the things you love will not be a part of this program...we might ask you to eat less of some things, and more of others, but it is never good to totally eliminate any food from your nutrition program, unless it is something like tobacco or alcohol.

Please remember the real focus here is health, not vanity! The goal is not to starve yourself to get to a certain body weight. The goal is to lose body fat, gain some muscle, and become a healthier, happier person!

WE ENCOURAGE YOUR PARTICIATION!  This is what will make this program successful. We would ask you to report your progress and struggles at the end of each month, just post a discussion and let us know how you are doing. "When progress is measured it improves, when it is measured and reported back the rate of improvement accelerates" (Thomas S. Monson) If you really get in and get involved, and involved other people, we will all achieve our goals in 2012!

Please know we love you and appreciate you so much! Thank you for your interest in our program and in this Group. May 2012 be your healthiest and happiest year yet!

Sincerely,

Team GAGA

Happy 2012 to everyone!! I am new to this GAGA website and have joined a few groups already.

I would like to share my weight loss experience with all of you. I started a "Doctor supervised" weight loss program the beginning of March and as of Dec. 29, 2011, I have lost a total of 95 lbs.

Yes it has been difficult at times, but I have been diligent for the most part. I even took a Health and Nutrition class in college this last semester. That class was very helpful and very informative. In that class we watched Food, Inc. as well and I was dumbfounded.

We also watched the documentary Super-size Me! It was not the first time that I have seen it, but it helped me remember all of the reasons why I avoid fast food restaurants.

I love the weight loss program that I am on because I weigh in every week with my doctor and I get all the measurements and percentages when I get on that scale.

I started out at 240 with the scale reading topping out at 56.9% body fat. I don't know what my actual body fat percentage was at that time because the 56.9 was as high as the doc's scale would go.

As of the Dec. 29, I am 144lbs, my BMI is 24.7%, body fat is at 37.7%, water is at 47.9%, muscle is at 36.4% and my overall goal is to be at 28% body fat. My average weight loss per week, since I started, is 2.8lbs.

I feel so much better physically and mentally. I am more confident in myself and in my Heavenly Father. I am grateful that He has helped me in all aspects of my life since my - then husband - told me he wanted a divorce five years ago. I am stronger mentally, spiritually, physically, and emotionally.

Good luck to everyone in 2012!!!

Lol Susan, I actually liked what Diana said and I didn't think she was being negative about herself. I thought the opposite that she is being positive and looking at it in the right way. I like the mindset that she has already and I wouldn't suggest changing it. I like the concept of "letting go" weight :) I would like to "let go" of 20Ibs myself in the next while :) I am on a plateau at the moment-my mind is not properly tuned to getting my habits back in action.

I am opting to let go of 45 lbs. this year.  I really don't just want to lose it, or one of these days I might just find it again.  Last year I let go of 25 lbs. Went off processed sugar and felt very healthy.   Looking forward to a Lighter year!

That's because muscle weighs more than fat...

Rebekah's Motherly Influence

Written by Julia Simmons for GAGASAINTS, May, 2012

There once was a woman named Rebekah, who was at a well, getting water during Bible times. She had no idea she was an answer to prayers for the man near by. She offered to get him and his camels water. He was amazed at this virgin, who no man had known. Before she left, the same man approached her and asked her who she was, then put jewelry on her, met her brother, went to her house and proposed a plan whereby she would marry the son (Isaac) of his master (Abraham). Yes, daddy Abraham needed grandchildren! After all, he was told he would have a tremendous posterity!

Meanwhile, Isaac went to the field to meditate. To his delight, she arrived, got off the camel, veiled her face and was brought to his tent where she became his beloved wife. He was forty years old when he married her. He loved her. However, she didn’t have children until he prayed to God asking for her to get pregnant. She struggled during the pregnancy and was told by God that two nations wrestled inside of her. Can you imagine? She was told that the younger one would rule over the older one.

However, Isaac favored the older one and would have given him the greater blessing if it was not for Rebekah’s wise intervention. She told Jacob to get some meat so she could cook it and she put together an outfit that would feel and smell like the other son. The younger one, who received the blessing, was named Jacob.  She had to warn him about his brother, Esau’s, anger toward him. He was obedient and went to stay with her brother for a while.

Later, she mourned because Esau was not married to righteous women. She begged her husband to help Jacob marry a righteous woman, even if she lived farther away. Her husband listened to her. Jacob married beautiful Rachel soon after. Rachel’s son Joseph was his favorite, so this made his other kids jealous and they sold him to the Egyptians. Meanwhile, Rachel was told that he was dead.  While Joseph was in Egypt, she had another son.

Joseph’s children became heirs of great blessings and many of his descendants are Latter Day Saints today. What would have come of all of this had Rebekah not had faith to marry someone she did not know? What would have happened if she had not insisted that her son marry a worthy woman? Would Joseph ever had been born? Would the 12 tribes of Israel even exist (they were created by Jacob’s 12 sons, who he had through Leah, Rachel and their servants).

Rebekah’s faithfulness has helped to bring about millions of lives into the gospel. She did as her mother and brother had hoped when they said, “…be thou the mother of thousands of millions and let they seed possess the gate of those which hate them.” 1. She is likely great grandmother of yours; a mother you can call your own, who loves you, wants the best for you and did all she could to save your soul. Bless Rebekah and may our lives honor her through the way we live our faith today.
